About the Pennyroyal Master Gardener Association

The Extension Master Gardener Program was created to meet an increase in requests from home gardeners for horticultural information. Master Gardeners are a nationwide group of trained volunteers who work with the staff at their local Extension Service to provide consumers with reliable, up-to-date research-based information about gardens and landscapes.

In 2018, the Pennyroyal Master Gardener Association celebrated 20 years of community service.

Our Vision
The Masters Gardeners are committed to public outreach and education about gardens and landscaping.

Become a Master Gardener

To become a Master Gardener, you must complete a 12-15 week training course in core subjects, taught by the Horticulture Extension Agent and other University of Kentucky specialists.

In return for that training the candidate must complete 40 hours of volunteer service within one year of course completion. Thereafter, volunteers are required to contribute 20 volunteer hours and accumulate 10 continuing education hours per year.
